Japanese Class

EngIO Japanese Class is designed to support students, researchers and faculty members in the School of Engineering, Graduate School of Biomedical Engineering, Graduate School of Information Sciences, and Graduate School of Environmental Studies in order to promote more interest in the Japanese language while helping them have a smoother, meaningful life both on-campus and off-campus.
These courses will give no credits, however, if you wish, we can issue a certificate of attendance for you. For international exchange students, you may apply for credit transfer by submitting the certificate to your home university.
These courses are free of charge.

After receiving the form, the class instructor will reply with the Google Classroom class code.

Note: Not all classes listed below may be offered. The class levels may be adjusted depending on the number of applicants.

*Tohoku University account is a secured IT account provided by Tohoku University to those who are admitted to Tohoku University, and is different from the student ID number. If you have not been provided with the account yet, please consult your host laboratory. It usually takes time to be issued, depending on the schedule of committee that approves your admission and internal procedures, etc.

Courses

Basic Beginner Course

Lecturer: LUO Han

Outline

Based on the textbook “Elementary Japanese GENKI”, this course aims to improve the four Japanese language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. By the end of the course, participants are expected to achieve Japanese proficiency equivalent to JLPT N5 or CEFR A1 level.

Class Style

Face-to-face classes will be held weekly at the International Office (2nd floor of the Central Building, Aobayama Campus). Textbooks and supplementary handouts will be distributed during each session.

Target Level

This course is designed for individuals who are new to learning Japanese and can read and write Hiragana and Katakana.

Upper Beginner Course

Lecturer: LUO Han

Outline

Based on the textbook “Elementary Japanese GENKI”, this course aims to enhance the four Japanese language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. By the end of the course, participants are expected to achieve Japanese proficiency equivalent to JLPT N4 or CEFR A2 level.

Class Style

Face-to-face classes will be held weekly at the International Office (2nd floor of the Central Building, Aobayama Campus). Textbooks and supplementary handouts will be distributed during each session.

Target Level

This course is designed for individuals who can perform basic greetings, engage in simple daily conversations, and read and write short sentences.

Intermediate Course

Lecturer: LUO Han

Outline

This course aims to enhance overall Japanese proficiency by practicing intermediate-level grammar and conversation. By the end of the course, participants are expected to achieve Japanese proficiency equivalent to JLPT N3–N2 or CEFR B1 level.

Class Style

Face-to-face classes will be held weekly at the International Office (2nd floor of the Central Building, Aobayama Campus). Textbooks and supplementary handouts will be distributed during each session.

Target Level

This course is intended for individuals who have completed an elementary-level course or those who can exchange simple information and understand set phrases in everyday situations.
