Japanese Class

EngIO Japanese Class is designed to support students, researchers and faculty members in the School of Engineering, Graduate School of Biomedical Engineering, Graduate School of Information Sciences, and Graduate School of Environmental Studies in order to promote more interest in the Japanese language while helping them have a smoother, meaningful life both on-campus and off-campus.
These courses will give no credits, however, if you wish, we can issue a certificate of attendance for you. For international exchange students, you may apply for credit transfer by submitting the certificate to your home university.
These courses are free of charge. 

 

Currently, Japanese language classes are suspended. Please refer to the past articles below for reference. We will announce the resumption of classes on this website.

How to Attend

Please email us with the following info.

・Name

・Affiliation at TU (school and department)

・Status at TU (ex: 1st year master’s student, graduate research students, etc.)

・Student ID number

・Class(es) you would like to take.

You will receive the class code for Google Classroom.

*The “Tohokudai ID” is required to join the Google Classroom.

Tohokudai ID is a secured IT account provided by Tohoku University to those who are admitted to Tohoku University, and is different from the student ID number. If you have not been provided the Tohokudai ID yet, please ask your host laboratory. It usually takes time to be provided, depending on the schedule of committee that approves your admission and internal procedures, etc.

“GENKI 1” Supplementary Materials

Lecturer: Ms. Ai Funayama

Outline

This is the grammar explanations and exercises supplementary material of the GENKI textbook. Even those who do not have the textbook can follow the “Conversation and Grammar” section along with the contents of the textbook (the “Reading and Writing” section is not included).

Class Style

This is an on-demand supplementary material. There are slides of each chapter on the Google Classroom so that you can progress at your own pace during the semester.

Scientific & Technical Japanese A

Lecturer: Prof. Hirokazu Moriya

Outline

This class aims to improve basic scientific and technical expressions of learners in science and engineering, and to learn vocabulary and phrases that are useful during seminars, experiments, and discussions with laboratory members.

This is an on-demand class. Each week, a slide will be posted on Google Classroom. You can refer to them any time during the semester.

Scientific & Technical Japanese B

Lecturer: Prof. Hirokazu Moriya

Outline

You will learn sentence patterns and expressions that are useful for research activities such as seminars, experiments, and discussions with lab mates. You will also learn expressions commonly used in science and engineering fields aiming to write papers, reports, etc.
